COULD A PAST HEAD INJURY BE THE ROOT CAUSE OF CONSTIPATION?
COLD AND FLU SUPPORT VIA THE GUT
Do you get more colds than you'd like each winter? If you have kids, do you seem to catch every bug that they bring home with them from school? Did you miss work last winter due to a cold or flu?
Cold and flu season can be exhausting if your immune system isn't functioning as well as it should. No one wants to get sick, and if you do end up sick then you want the recovery to be fast.
AVERTING DIVERTICULITIS
By the time someone comes to see me, they have often been through a multitude of medical tests with their medical doctor, and often have a good indication of possible disease states, or in some cases lack of identifiable disease. Since I focus on gut health, often the types of assessments that have been done include colonoscopies, and increasingly people are telling me they have some diverticula, but so far have not developed diverticulitis. Trust me, you don't want diverticulitis. Here’s how to avoid it.
COFFEE ENEMAS FOR CONSTIPATION
Do you have to add bran, flax seed, psyllium or take a supplement to help you poop? Do you have to strain to initiate a bowel movement? Do you have less than one bowel movement a day? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you are amongst the many people who suffer from constipation. Many people don't think too much about their regularity unless it gets to the stage where it becomes uncomfortable to pass stool or unless hemorrhoids develop from straining. Coffee enemas can help.
CREATINE - A BRAIN BUILDING SUPPLEMENT
THE PARKINSON'S-GUT CONNECTION
I watched my grandfather suffer from Parkinson’s disease. It was difficult to watch. Before he died, my grandfather was a shell of his previous self. The man everyone knew and loved had disappeared long before death took him. His last years were spent in a wheel chair, and he was completely dependent on caregivers to feed, bathe and dress him. If only I knew then, what I know now about the Parkinson’s-gut connection.
THE MS-GUT CONNECTION
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is debilitating. The symptoms look like you’ve taken multiple diseases and thrown them all together into one awful mix. Common symptoms include pain, pins and needles, and muscle cramping in any part of the body. The pain can be constant and intense. Frequently bowel and bladder problems exist, which are problematic and can lead to embarrassing situations. Muscle weakness can cause breathing problems and extreme fatigue. Gut-health is an underlying factor in the development of the condition.
MACA DRINK RECIPES
Maca is a root vegetable that is cultivated in Peru, where it grows at high altitudes in the Andes. I can be yellow, red or black in colour and has a slightly sweet flavor. Maca is considered to be a Superfood because of its high nutritional profile. It is high in fiber, protein and minerals. It is best known for its ability to balance hormones, which makes it a great choice for PMS or fertility problems in women, and for increasing sperm production in men. It can also help balance blood sugars, and help the body cope with stress.
WHEN FRESH IS NOT BEST
With regular frequency I am asked the question "is it okay to use frozen?" This question comes up when I am sitting with a client and we are coming up with meal ideas that the client likes and that include the recommendations I have made. When that question gets asked, the look on the person's face is usually a mixture of guilt and hope. Guilt, because that person is using frozen already, and hope because they desperately want me to answer "yes" for convenience sake. I always answer with a resounding YES! Fresh isn't always best.
